Winding
a Skein with a Niddy Noddy
A niddy noddy is a handy tool
for winding your handspun or other yarn into a skein.
 |
Lightly
secure one end of the yarn under the (slightly undone) top screw
of the niddy noddy. |
 |
Holding the niddy
noddy in the centre, take the yarn down around one of the lower
cross piece ends, then up around a top cross piece end. |
 |
Take the yarn down around
the other lower cross piece end, then up and around the other
top cross piece end. Continue this path until all
of the yarn is wound on to the niddy noddy.
|
 |
Cross the
ends of the yarn together and bring the ends of the yarn around
to secure the strands. |
 |
Tie the
ends of the yarn. Tie again in 2 - 3 other places on the skein.
Slip
the skein off the niddy noddy via the cross piece end that has no
knob. |
 |
Holding
each end of the skein, twist in opposite directions until the skein
is fairly firmly wound. |
 |
Bring the two
ends of the skein together, allowing the skein to twist on to itself.
Tuck one of the ends through the loop of the other. Now you have
a skein! |
